<p style="text-align: left;">We are seeing a trend where marker drawings are playing an interesting role at fashion events in New York. This past Sunday was the closing party of the <a href="http://www.psfk.com/2009/08/british-artists-to-invade-the-les.html" target="_blank">Wish You Were Here Swap in the LES</a>, a retail pop-up project featuring goods from London&#8217;s Newburgh Quarter. At the party we noticed the London-bred <a href="http://www.wishyouwerehereswap.com/2009/08/14/artist-in-residence/" target="_blank">artist-in-residence</a>, Shantell Martin, decorating peoples&#8217; faces and bodies with markers which she called <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/shantellmartin/sets/72157612103742802/" target="_blank">Line Drawings</a>. These animations truly seemed to echo Martin&#8217;s work. Her series of line drawings are created in sync with the energy of the live performance during the closing party.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">This week marker art was seen again. For Rodarte&#8217;s latest collection for New York Fashion Week, <a href="http://twitpic.com/hxs2v" target="_blank">WWD</a> captured body art on the models&#8217; arms and necks drawn with heavy black markers.  <span id="more-339"></span>The marker art appears to add a mesmerizing, tribal-quality to the pieces of destroyed leather, scrap beads, and burnt knitwear that comprised of the collection. The drawings produce a darker dimension to the futuristic aesthetic which the Mulleavy sisters are known to create. The &#8220;idea that someone could &#8216;be scarred and still beautiful&#8217; was the collection&#8217;s leitmotif,&#8221; as described by <a href="http://www.style.com/fashionshows/review/S2010RTW-RODARTE" target="_blank">Style.com</a>. One would think it&#8217;s about the clothes, but it&#8217;s interesting to see this decorative art at staged fashion events.</p>

<p><a href="http://www.wallpaper.com/fashion/jeremy-deller-for-louis-vuitton-london/3371" target="_blank">Wallpaper</a> featured an article on Turner Prize-winning artist <a href="http://www.jeremydeller.org/" target="_blank">Jeremy Deller</a>, and it seems he like knows what will tantalize shoppers in London. In the past he has filled <a href="http://www.tate.org.uk/britain/" target="_blank"><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Tate Britain</span></a> with bouquets and organized music concerts in the countryside. Would this work for a temporary in-store display? As I&#8217;m about to find out Deller doesn&#8217;t take his artistic mission lightly.</p>
<p><span id="more-233"></span></p>
<p><img class="alignnone" src="http://static.wallpaper.com/croppedimages/testuser5_may2009_04_lvdeller_jp190509_6zMJAN_ZheUsm.jpg" alt="" width="358" height="220" /></p>
<p>Clever indeed the creative strategy behind <a href="http://www.louisvuitton.com/web/flash/index.jsp;jsessionid=DG41TBNSSI4FKCRBXUDVAFYKEG4RAUPU?buy=1&amp;langue=en_US&amp;direct1=home_entry_us" target="_blank">Louis Vuitton</a>’s garden project is to coincide with their latest store opening in the retail island of <a href="http://uk.westfield.com/london/stores/" target="_blank">Westfield in London’s Shepherds Bush</a>.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" src="http://static.wallpaper.com/croppedimages/testuser5_may2009_05_lvdeller_jp190509_0eSATV_6HMNOB.jpg" alt="" width="430" height="263" /></p>
<p><a href="http://www.wallpaper.com/art/Q-A-with-jeremy-deller/3372" target="_blank">Deller</a> produced a temporary urban garden with full-body scarecrows to highlight the store’s opening ceremony. Carefully designed to symbolize sustainability and natural energy – the garden brings life to Louis’s latest luxury giant as well as to the usual synthetic mall environment.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" src="http://static.wallpaper.com/croppedimages/testuser5_may2009_01_lvdeller_jp190509_uc3RQt_sWqHee.jpg" alt="" width="430" height="263" /></p>
<p>Entrenched in the past year and a half with lawsuits in <a href="http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/arts/la-et-murakami25-2008jun25,0,732575.story" target="_blank">copyright infringement</a> and <a href="http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/arts/la-et-murakami25-2008jun25,0,732575.story" target="_blank">fraudulent art</a>, this is an interesting way to build up a luxury giant through a social cause. In parallel with economic responsibility, Deller’s botanical presentation will be donated to the <a href="http://hcga.org.uk/" target="_blank">Hammersmith Community Garden</a><a href="http://hcga.org.uk/" target="_blank">s Project</a>. Do you think ‘London’s love for a good garden’ is a philanthropic act that is well suited for Louis Vuitton?</p>

<div><span class="Style9">I remember when cutting heart and moon shapes from folded paper was neverending fun, and oh, snowflakes were great, too.  The designers of <a href="http://www.rabbitontherun.com/">Rabbit On the Run</a> seem to have ran on this idea, making tunic tees from metallic and vivid cut-outs. The idea reflects the different, independent, free and spontaneous universe of Julie Thevnot. The patterns are a result of various experiments around cutting and folding for an unplanned symmetry, taking one step above my fashion preschool days. And <a href="http://pipeline.refinery29.com/on_the_verge/pat_the_bunny_rabbit_on_the_ru.php">the Pipeline</a> gushes how the A/W &#8217;09 mini collection, Dakala and Disco Tee are works of art incoming from Paris to NYC . The coral Dakala version is sold out on <a href="http://www.pixiemarket.com/store/">Pixie Market</a> in LA, but you can purchase them on <a href="http://www.rabbitontherun.com/online.html">Rabbit&#8217;s site</a>. Maybe I&#8217;ll start a D.I.Y project if I can find some eye-popping fabrics and shears! </span></div>
